It was "Meet the Primes" day at our May Luncheon and we are extremely grateful to the panelists that assisted us with this event.  Our panelists represented some of the top General Contractors in the South Florida area including D. Stephenson Construction, KAST Construction, AECOM Tishman, Turner Construction, LEGO Construction, Skanska Construction and Thornton Construction.  Susana Vela, one of the Directors for NAWIC Miami Chapter 41, was the moderator and asked several questions including internship programs, community involvement, and the process on getting prequalified with each company to be part of their bidders list.  Although each company had a different outlook on these topics, they all shared the same goal.  Empowering the minority contractors, boosting the community, and growing their companies from within were among some of the similarities.

Want to learn more about each of these companies and the opportunities they have?  Make sure to visit their websites!

Ms. Robbs also provided insider tips on how to anticipate the announcement of upcoming projects and solicitations.

Ms. Robbs is the Coordinator for the Office of Supplier Diversity Outreach Program (SDOP), Procurement and Warehousing Services Department for the School Board of Broward County, Florida (SBBC). Ms. Robbs focus is to increase availability, build capacity, and grow contract participation by S/M/WBEs in SBBC's procurement and contracting. Through sustainable community outreach and business partnerships, Ms. Robbs seeks to build awareness of the contracting opportunities that are available to the business local community.

Today, we welcomed our new board members for the 2017-2018 year. The theme for the event was "Together We Can Do It!" and the night was filled with inspiring, empowering words from various board members. Mari Lopez of Jackson Health Systems presided over the ceremony while the new board members vowed to lead us through a great and prosperous year.

Aside from the installation of the board, three new members joined our Miami Chapter 41 and one member was presented with a Longevity Award for being with the organization 32 years. It was a great night celebrating with all those who attended and we look forward to an amazing year!
